Seems there are fears of a looming manpower shortage in the Russian military as a report from Russian news outlet iStories claims Russian Prisoners are being offered their freedom and 200,000 rubles a month to serve 6 months in Ukraine , should they be killed their families will receive 5 million rubles (£72,000).

Relatives of inmates at two prisons outside St Petersburg, IK-7 Yablonevka and IK-6 Obukhovo, told Russian news outlet iStories on Monday that prisoners have been promised 200,000 rubles (£2,800) a month and an amnesty if they survive six months of "voluntary" service.

The inmates were told they would be recruited to serve with Wagner, a notorious Russian military contractor whose fighters have been implicated in suspected war crimes in Syria and Mali.

According to a relative of one of the prisoners, inmates were asked to “defend the Motherland”.

Wagner recruiters last week and earlier this week reportedly visited three prison colonies outside St Petersburg, which is where the military contractor is based.

According to one relative, prison officials told the inmates they would be transported out of prison with official papers showing they were being transferred to another prison.

From there, they would be under guard all the way until they crossed into Ukraine.

Relatives of the inmates told iStories that they were not clear about the nature of the assignment.

Some said their men had been invited to serve alongside Wagner mercenaries while others were told they would be involved in reconstruction work in Russia-occupied areas of Ukraine.

An unidentified relative of a Yablonevka inmate said he had already signed a contract to go to Ukraine.

“He told me two days after the meeting that he signed the contract and that there’s no going back,” the relative said.

“He says they’re going there to fight. Why did he agree? He was tempted by a promise that he would be back home in six months and his conviction would be invalidated.”

Another pseudo-Russian news outlet.

Dozhd TV, IStories, seven journalists, added to list of foreign agents

20 AUG 2021, 22:30

The Dozhd television channel, IStories or the Important Stories publication and seven journalists have joined the list of foreign agents, the Russian Justice Ministry said on Friday.

According to the ministry’s register, Istories Fonds, a legal entity registered in Latvia, and the Dozhd TV Channel, as well as IStories Editor-In-Chief Roman Anin, editors Roman Shleynov and Olesya Shmagun, journalists Dmitry Velikovsky, Alesya Marokhovskaya, and Irina Dolinina have been recognized as foreign agents.
...........................................
Under Russian laws, individuals recognized as foreign agents are obliged once every six months to report on their activities, including about the uses of funds and other property they receive from foreign sources. They are also obliged to indicate their foreign agent status in the materials they publish or distribute. Apart from that, such individuals cannot be employed by government agencies and local self-governments. Any breach of these rules carries an administrative or criminal penalty.

Being classified as a foreign outlet doesn't mean they aren't Russian. Just a way of suppressing independent media in this case.

Do you think that there are friends around Russia who want to report only the truth about it?

The streams of lies about the countries objectionable to the West that it generates have a colossal volume.

And so it is almost impossible for the average Westerner to break through to the truth about such countries.

In WW2,Hitler created the Volkssturm when he knew he had run out of regular fighters-by that point he pretty much knew it was game over, yet decided to throw all the young, the old,and the prisoners into the meat grinder of Berlin in a desperate attempt to delay the inevitable.

Is Putin really at a similar stage of the game-or are there other reasons such people would be used?
The only other reason I can think of is motivation and morale-We know morale has been bad on the Russian side, maybe the terms given to prisoners-their potential freedom, even at high risk of death,is enough to motivate them to fight like hell.

If i was given the choice I would sign up to fight-then choose option 3- dissapear during the chaos of first contact and head over the border to europe.

No. It means another thing.

This is one of the favorite methods of the West to submit information through their agents, who are natives of the country in question.

As far as I understand, in the eyes of the Western public, this gives information more credibility.

This public believes that since he was born and lives there, he knows well what is happening in his country.

But no one thinks about the fact that if this is an agent of the West, then everything he says will be only information beneficial to the West.

Quite often, people who oppose the Russian government are simply agents of the West or people fooled by the Western anti-Russian agenda.

As I understand it, you think that if the media is registered in Latvia, then it is legitimate to call it "Russian news outlet", as gortex did in the first post of the topic?

According to the article his "special operation" troop numbers are running low and to get more he would have to order a mass mobilization which could create more protests at home and be politically damaging.

Grain of salt.

Was listening to a pod cast with Tim Kennedy and they mentioned that Putin did an executive order removing age limits for conscription.

Something is going on... Just not sure what.

More often they are people who oppose the Russian government because they can see see it for what it is , a fascist dictatorship.

British news agencies have outlets all over the world but they are still British news agencies , the closure of independent news outlets in Russia means only State approved outlets are allowed to operate there.

Obviously you already know this.

you know once there was a government that did that about 80 years ago or so. didn't turn out so well for them even if they were on the cutting edge of advanced weapons, which russia only has a few of, the rest are old antiquated relics that seem to be getting destroyed left and right along with the man power they claim to have and lie about losing.

Have you ever even watched Dhozd? It's in Russian. I understand very little Russian, it's not aimed at me. And it used to be based in Russia until 2022 when they fled to Lithuania.
