It seems about time to start a Russia Ukraine situational update thread to consolidate all of the important updates and info about this impending situation.

President Vladimir Putin ordered his defense ministry to despatch Russian peacekeepers to eastern Ukraine's two breakaway regions, according to a decree published early on Tuesday after he said Moscow would recognize their independence.

Have been reading multiple reports of this. Well, that was quick! Will this be seen as an "invasion" by NATO and the West? Is this report true? Time will tell. Russia always can say we didn't encroach on Ukraine since it doesn't recognize Donetsk and Lugansk as Ukraine.

Did Russia win yet? It appears the only goals they achieved so far was looking like a third rate military.

That pretty much sums it up. Ukraine launched a Helicopter attack on the oil facilities at Belgorod last night and its still on fire. More than 200 firefighters are trying to contains the blazes but its doesnt look like there are going to be successful in containing the damage.

Also Sweden has deployed elements of their air force to Poland.

Ukraine is not taking responsibility at this time from what I read although I think they should if they did this, it shows how even more laughable the Sovie...er, the Russian military is at this point.

The need to Sun Tzu them a little bit more and counterattack while they have the impetuous.

The US military would have mopped the floor with the Russian expeditionary force, that much is clearly obvious at this time. Their logistics are atrocious, the hardware is not living up to the hype and they have no cohesive plan.

Good job, Putin, good job.

The U.S. was 'nation building' for 19.5 of those 20 years, and we absolutely suck at that.

We never took any kind of beating there (though every battle is challenging and every human loss painful), and certainly nothing like the beating russia has endured for the past month.

We also never engaged in wholesale city bombing like the russians are doing, not since ww2 anyway.

As a reminder -

Just so people know and understand. Information from war zones can become confusing as there will no doubt be info released from the players (on both sides) involved that might not necessarily be true.

As such take everything as a possibility and NOT as absolute truth.

The very first casualty in a war is the truth and all warfare is based on deception
