In an ideal world, let's "give guns to everyone and let's see who's left standing". I have extremely liberal views regarding guns.

I am right there with ya
My thinking is, it will happen any way so might as well give the folks making an effort to do the right thing a fighting chance

Cheers

Any banned substance is always more abused. I don't have hard facts on that statement, but I think the evidence speaks for itself.
Let's ban/control alcohol... Where are we today with that? Let's ban and (try) to control drugs... where are we with that today?

Banning guns would be ludicrously insane in my opinion, given the history of "control" thus far.
Guns are banned in many countries, yet gun violence and crime are thriving. Personally, owning a weapon empowers me as a law abiding citizen to defend myself in the most extreme way... and that makes me less of a target. That's all I got to say about that.

A bit of a melodramatic title.

It was clearly a sexual assault, but we don't know if her life was in danger.

It seemed clear that the assailant was not using a weapon.

She should have just allowed herself to be assaulted or worse?

If it means that a rapist and murderer gets to live, then yes.

It seems

Guns dont save peoples lives people do. A gun is just a tool someone still has to use it.

Not sure if I'm interpreting this correctly...

Are you saying that a rapist and murderer should "live" because someone got assaulted and raped?

No

I’m saying that according to the mindset of the insane people who oppose self defence : it is better to allow this man to rape and murder rather than have one of his victims shoot him

According to those people, this rapist is the true victim

Thank you kindly for the clarification.

What a f###en scumbag opinion that is

Pro criminal, anti freedom, disgusting comment

“Rape doesn’t warrant self defence”

The gun most definitely saved that woman’s life. And that is the part that upsets you.

No, for each statement.

That should really placate the #MeToo denizens from your tribe.

"It's ok, he was just going to /rape/ you; he probably wouldn't kill (so we think)"

Brilliant logic.

I'm just pointing out that it doesn't look likely, in this case, that the woman's life was in danger.

There are 100's of lives taken, each and every day, with firearms in the USA. The majority are suicides. A few are accidental.

In this case, it would appear that no-one died, so it was a good outcome to a very bad situation.

But on average, it's no real reason to suggest that guns are lifesaving overall.

Id like to see you tell this woman, with a straight face and tell her that her life wasn't in any danger.

A gun equalized this encounter and many other documented encounters.

I am unable to do that. I am resident in another country and the woman's details were withheld from the news article.

Do you have any evidence of the deaths you're spouting or is the hundreds of suicides by gunfire every day just a figment of your imagination?

The gun saved that woman’s life

And losers are upset about that

Who cares?
Gun rights will never be taken away regardless how loudly the lowest of IQs and the most hateful pro-crime people scream about it

“I’d tell her to her face that her life wasn’t in danger if I lived there”

What a scumbag POS

At least the rapist got shot, and the vast majority of people applaud that. The pieces of sh#t are upset about it
