If it is true that masks mandates in schools keep kids safer does that fact override state sovereignty? In our modern times is safty a more important virtue than personal freedom and parental choice?

Why not both?

If someone wants their kids to wear masks, fine. Even better, give them a hazmat suit and body armor. Just remember, the body armor goes outside the hazmat suit. Otherwise, a bullet could penetrate the suit, be stopped by the armor, and the kid could still get Covid.

Or go a step further, build a bunker and home school their children.

If someone doesn't want to force their children to wear a mask, that's OK, too. There's no need to use armed goons to force people to be paranoid.

Good question, but let's expand on your idea. Black kids are almost 10 times more likely to commit a crime than asian kids and almost 3 times over white kids. "If" mandating masks keeps the kids safe, would you have any problems requiring black kids to wear electronic monitoring devices? Wouldn't it keep the kids safer?

Okay, I know you are going to say black kids did not have a choice being black. Well, that's fair. What about the factors that lead to high rite of crime in black community, like single parent being a major factor. How about we mandate everybody with kids to be married and have stable jobs? What about the culture that lead to high drop out rate? While we are at the mandating trends, wouldn't it save lives to outlaw anti-social culture, like gangster rap and entertainment glorifying criminals?

Wow, that's it! I think we can solve all kinds of problems by mandates, even hunger! We can get a few PHD's to publish a few papers, then get CNN, MSNBC, Fox and the rest of the media to handle the propaganda. I mean informing the public. We can even have Zuckerberg and gangs to make sure no opposing voice can be heard! OSHA will be there to ensure employers becoming the enforcement arms. Wait a minute, I just realize I am late for the party. They already started doing it all. Vax, mask, CRT, open borders, and god know what else. I am so happy that our leaders thought of all that for us, world peace at last.

Something ain't right though, why are the politicians and companies involved in this whole noble endeavor making record profits while we all suffer? Someone please help me with that so I can come fully on board with all the mandates and save the world. I am ready, and let's go Brandon.

Is this like how the mandates imposed by KCMO and Jackson Co are "working" even though almost the entire state is mask free and people are freely traveling all over the metro where many places are mask free and cases are falling at pretty much the same rate all over?

Don't let Jackson County and KCMO fool you. Everyone ignored their latest "mandate". That's why we didn't see anyone at the Royals or Chiefs games wearing masks the first week after the latest mandate was put into place. Downtown KCMO businesses might have been adhering to the mandate, but I didn't see anyone else doing it.

I have no doubt that masks and social distancing in appropriate settings help slow the spread of multiple diseases. But in some cases, it can harm people and that needs to be taken into consideration. Those people whom it harms have equal rights too.

Schools have always been virus factories, that is not new. But the vast majority of kids just get a mild version and build up natural immunity, that has to be taken into consideration too.

It is their school district, I do not try to force my opinion on others but also do not like evidence like this to be used to form precedence to force every school to do the same thing.

I live in KCMO Clay Co. If we can, we drive to places that don't have mandates; then we come home where we don't mask.

I imagine that the last vote to extend wasn't unanimous because I know the Northland Councilor for Clay didn't want to extend. His businesses are losing business because of this.

How many people need to die for you to push for masks and vaccinations?

Is 70,000 enough?

These Democrat mandates are just dumb. Why stop at mask? Why not mandate every kid wear hazmat at school?

Did you read the OP? They are sharing an article showing that according to this official, these districts had lower cases and they're claiming it's because of mandates.

Where I am sitting, the whole state went through a wave, the whole state is on the downhill side of it, and only a few areas chose to impose mandates. If you're saying that the mandates "saved" people, then you have to show they created a difference between those areas and others, but they really don't.

Every area here went through the same trajectory of the curve in terms of case increase and now case decrease regardless of masking. Some areas had more cases; some areas had less, but again, that is not related necessarily to masking. The areas with masking were among the areas with more cases in most instances here because they have high populations of young African-American men who are among the most vaccine reluctant, and that percentage hasn't really changed at all.

What kind of scientific study was done? Based on what? And how was the cause isolated down to masks?

Anyway. There was a real scientific study…. On a large scale.

Report: CDC Downplayed Scientific Finding that Masking Children Not Effective in Schools

According to the NYM, the study published by the CDC covered more than 90,000 elementary-school students in 169 Georgia schools from November 16 to December 11. The study, according to the CDC, was the first of its kind to compare COVID-19 incidence in schools with certain mitigation measures in place to other schools without those measures.

The other thing I recall is that it has been found too that most cases of COVID in school children is often brought in from outside and not student to student. So the kid comes in having picked it up beyond the school.

So for the official to claim that students having less cases because they mask up at school is a bit strange unless they're being forced to likewise mask up everywhere else which we know, in FL, they aren't.

No, the masks work. So does washing your hands. And social distancing. And lockdowns. And vaccinations.

But if people protest, and group together, and refuse to mask up, and refuse to stick with lock-down protocols, and are generally domestic terrorists in a time of a pandemic, then the disease spreads from these human super-spreader events, and people still die unnecessarily.

Is that why people have been gathering at sports events since this summer and yet ... no one has blamed them for mass spikes in infections/deaths.

NFL is proceeding without a hitch, so is college ball, so is MLB.

As the tit for tat battle between Florida's Ron DeSantis' administration and Joe Biden's administration heats up putting in question the states right to control its own education system ; it turns out that date shows that mask mandates in schools do in fact work.

"Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried, an independently-elected member of the Florida Cabinet, held a virtual press conference to release and discuss school district COVID-19 data which Governor Ron DeSantis’ administration has worked to block. This data shows clear evidence that school districts requiring masks resulted in up to four times lower COVID-19 cases per capita than school districts that did not require masks."

So, let me get this straight...

You're just accepting the word of a blatant TDS suffering beaurorat that has been radically pro mandate (all of them), which is based on biased secret data (they do not provide the raw data that I could see)?

People can still get their sports fix. And promoters can still get their revenues. They just have to be smarter about how they do it.

Masking up would work. As would seating with 2 meter spacing. Better extractive air-con for indoor events. Sanitizing at the entry points. Even UV lighting to suppress viral propagation. There are all sorts of things that could be done.

Perhaps they could have interactive broadcasts with special features like one-on ones, or mass team discussions, with athletes and etc, done over the Internet?

Humans evolved social behavior that encourages getting sick, such as massive partying, subconsciously touching face and picking nose. To get sick is to be human. Without frequently getting sick the immune system is dangerously low and that can be lethal. Even a cold can be lethal without a frequently boosted immune system. These Democrats are going up against human nature. Very dangerous.

Calling one's fellow citizens "domestic terrorists" is a bit hyperbolic. If this is where we are going I would argue that the world deserves a pandemic in order to teach us a bit humility.

If people who don't ware makes are "domestic terrorists" what do we call those who shoot up night clubs?

I'd also argue that it is exactly this exaggerated and emotionally driven world outlook that drives the opposite extremists.

Many of America’s peer nations around the world — including the U.K., Ireland, all of Scandinavia, France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Italy — have exempted kids, with varying age cutoffs, from wearing masks in classrooms. Conspicuously, there’s no evidence of more outbreaks in schools in those countries relative to schools in the U.S., where the solid majority of kids wore masks for an entire academic year and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. These countries, along with the World Health Organization, whose child-masking guidance differs substantially from the CDC’s recommendations, have explicitly recognized that the decision to mask students carries with it potential academic and social harms for children and may lack a clear benefit.

When the data on school masking is inconclusive at this time; its difficult to take people seriously who call others "domestic terrorists" for having a different opinion.
