$35 dollar laptop?

Yep, a ham friend of mine oversees a small town's convenience center (trash collection area) and you wouldn't believe the electronic devices he "rescues" from the trash. This particular laptop was OK but something in the Windows 7 Home Premium was locking it down with a blue screen of death. Got it for $35 and wiped the HD which was allegedly 5400 rpm. I put windows 10 home in it and still the HD would give the BSoD every now and then. HP fills their computers with more bloatware than actual computer programs. It took me a while but after adding more RAM, a 1 TB SSD, Windows 10 Pro, and just last night updated drivers. I use it to program ham radios and to log contacts during field day. BTW, I fixed the camera. Had to go in to the device manager and re-enable the camera. I guess whatever was using it last night didn't want me to discover it...

People in January 2001 that believed our electronic devices were eavesdropping on us were considered schizophrenic. Twenty years later, the people that think electronic devices are not eavesdropping on us are considered delusional. What a difference a couple of decades makes!

My android frequently searches for crap im talking about without me activating a search with the magic words. I dont subscribe to onstar but every once in a while it chimes in for no reason stating the vehicle is equipped with it. Until heads start rolling, literally, it will only get worse.

I'm reading this thread and start up my email in another window and I get this.

Have a fruit-branded cell phone here. About a week after I got it I was getting ready for work, when a message popped up "If you leave now you'll arrive at your destination in xx minutes".

WHAT?!? This is NOT something I opted-in to or asked for; the fruit phone took the liberty to track my routine on its own. As a tool its job is to do what I ask of it, nothing less and nothing more.

For a company that does all the public relations about caring for privacy, actions sometimes speak otherwise.

My Siri must be thick as fook then as she cannot even turn on and write a text message when I tell her too, unless she is catatonic from listening 24/7.

The only way it can tell when you need it is if it always listens.

So Apple do we need to mash and make apple cider out of you? Or is it someone else?

Several weeks ago my wife said that someone is listening to our conversations because mundane things we talked about are now appearing the next day on her desktop as buy me ads when she surfs the internet. Both at home and at work. We try to maintain our privacy to the point that we remove each address label off any mail we receive and shred same to do whatever to protect our identity and information. Same goes for all of our printed statements. It really probably doesn’t matter as many financial institutions that we do business with have been hacked and our stuff stolen. We have been notified. She has since become paranoid as she surmised that it’s one of our phones. She maintains three company issued electronic devices as she has corporate Accounting responsibility and must be in 24 / 7 standby mode. Me, I just have a Samsung A51 5G phone. In my opinion it’s a POS.

What a country of dirtballs this USA. Last night we were watching movies on NETFLIX in my man cave. Wife goes to bed and I stayed up and then went to the West room. Yes it’s on the West side of the home. As I am doing my thing the power goes off. I am a pretty straight shooter so no issues other than I tripped over the stairs that project into the hall on my way back to the cave to get my cell phone as it was totally pitch dark. I don’t know about all of you but our power goes out quite often in South Carolina. You know it’s really a long outage when the programmable thermostats need to have the clock reset. Last night was a long one. So back in the cave I found the phone and make my way to the bedroom as I can use the phone as a flashlight.

So this morning at 5:00AM I get up and can’t find my phone. Since we both have the same phone I check to see if mine is with hers. It’s then I notice that a screen turns on one of her phones as I simply nudged it and the open screen says SIRI and it appears to be filming and listening in the basket that it’s stored in.

I said WTF. So a half hour later I found my phone. It was left on the floor near our bed. I don’t have any girlfriend’s nor is it locked so I am pretty transparent. Well let’s just say life isn’t fun being a fooking boy scout.

So I head back to the kitchen as I want to take a picture of the activated SIRI screen on her company issued phone. The SIRI screen is now gone! Yes, I know how to operate a Smart phone. Let’s just say WTF is going on here. Obviously we have transparency here and have shared our story. That’s why I wrote the above all in a long format so anyone can follow the bouncing ball. Since SIRI has been around for some time I now wonder why no one has filed a class action suit against Apple and the others. I mean even Samsung isn’t clean on this as they repeatedly ask me for my birthday. So I give them one. Totally fictitious and I write it down so I can fake them out. I also identify as a female. No not in real life but just to Samsung.

The Feds trained me well.

So ATS member what would you think would happen if everyone here acted as a Flash Mob at random, activated SIRI and pepper sprayed Apple by playing a Chinese porn video so that it could listen, record and dissimilate. Possibly including barnyard animals along with all those human grunts and groans. I would like to fry their circuits and I read somewhere that Porn messes with the Bots.

For the record Waterglass served your country USA in the civilian watcher program. My security clearance was compromised several years ago when China hacked into the Office Of Personal Management and stole over 22 million names of people who held USA security clearances. My fed POC wrote that both his and my file are probably in the hands of a foreign government. I guess I will never travel to China for the rest of my life.

As far as Apple and SIRI goes. SIRI is obviously active and I will begin my crusade to mess with it. It’s just too bad that money can buy anything these days especially all those in our government, including judges.

It’s really sucks living in the USA today.
They can always spy on you or listen to you if they want to even when your phone is turned off. That is how sick and abusive they have become with this technology.

I learned they weren't exaggerating just how we are being violated by mobile phones and without a doubt there are even offices out there of guys who listen to people have sex and if video connection and the right view like the resurgence of the stand up chargers comjng with new phones so the camera gets a view of the whole room...but yea I learned it's true when someone commented on a painting I have of Emmett Kelly's and I told him who it was and how it worked a whole trend during the 60s or 70s. An hour later he is gone and I wanted to search for some election information and I go to Google and type E. A simple E. It jumps in with, "do you mean Emmet Kelly!?"

Sorry but environment, equality, Estonian news, eat this not that, lots of searches for eating...ahem....ELECTION COVERAGE MAYBE?!? But no, turns out in case you were wondering it's probably just my paranoia and in my head and of course the number one search beginning with E in all of Internetdom is Emmet Kelley.

So this is a company phone!!!!
it's likely her company is spying on her (and likely you).

Many companies track their employees internet use like facebook and other social media sites.
And giving the employee a company phone lets them track her by GPS and phone numbers she calls.

It takes real care to use the internet in two personas, One for the company/government to find and one for your own use that is hidden from the company.
I have been retired for 20 years and still keep up two internet personas.

You have agreed to let others gain access to your phones
Address book
Internet history
And much more.

This has been going on for over ten years.
My friend who owns an app and ask permission for these things has access to others cameras when ever he wants .
Larger companies record and organize this data and sell it

SIRI was listening this morning at 2:00AM. I went to get a glass of water and noticed that the phone screen on her 2nd phone was lit up and had the same weird screen saver that I saw the other day when SIRI was operational and active on her other company phone. I told my wife who owns both.

I told her the other day if your trying to see what goes on around here you wont get much from me except alot of F bombs, God this and that and me talking to Sam. Hes a cat.

Strange but true.

Yes. I use the TOR browser but now I see that even it along with Duck Duck go is compromised.

It was never "secure"
It was built by the navy so its spies could communicate securely. It was unclassified and made public so it would provide security via obscurity.
If you operated an end node, you could capture all the traffic coming in and out.

I have been saying this is to family for the past 10+ years. If you have any kind of device connected to the internet, assume you are being recorded or filmed, whether that device appears to be on or off. The amount of times I've been dismissed as a wacko conspiracy theorist..

Of course its always listening, how else would it know when you say "Hey SIRI"? Also, of course they use it to server personalized ads. Its intrusive and creepy, but theres not much we can do about it unless you want to get a dumb phone.
