So Apple do we need to mash and make apple cider out of you? Or is it someone else?

Several weeks ago my wife said that someone is listening to our conversations because mundane things we talked about are now appearing the next day on her desktop as buy me ads when she surfs the internet. Both at home and at work. We try to maintain our privacy to the point that we remove each address label off any mail we receive and shred same to do whatever to protect our identity and information. Same goes for all of our printed statements. It really probably doesn’t matter as many financial institutions that we do business with have been hacked and our stuff stolen. We have been notified. She has since become paranoid as she surmised that it’s one of our phones. She maintains three company issued electronic devices as she has corporate Accounting responsibility and must be in 24 / 7 standby mode. Me, I just have a Samsung A51 5G phone. In my opinion it’s a POS.

What a country of dirtballs this USA. Last night we were watching movies on NETFLIX in my man cave. Wife goes to bed and I stayed up and then went to the West room. Yes it’s on the West side of the home. As I am doing my thing the power goes off. I am a pretty straight shooter so no issues other than I tripped over the stairs that project into the hall on my way back to the cave to get my cell phone as it was totally pitch dark. I don’t know about all of you but our power goes out quite often in South Carolina. You know it’s really a long outage when the programmable thermostats need to have the clock reset. Last night was a long one. So back in the cave I found the phone and make my way to the bedroom as I can use the phone as a flashlight.

So this morning at 5:00AM I get up and can’t find my phone. Since we both have the same phone I check to see if mine is with hers. It’s then I notice that a screen turns on one of her phones as I simply nudged it and the open screen says SIRI and it appears to be filming and listening in the basket that it’s stored in.

I said WTF. So a half hour later I found my phone. It was left on the floor near our bed. I don’t have any girlfriend’s nor is it locked so I am pretty transparent. Well let’s just say life isn’t fun being a fooking boy scout.

So I head back to the kitchen as I want to take a picture of the activated SIRI screen on her company issued phone. The SIRI screen is now gone! Yes, I know how to operate a Smart phone. Let’s just say WTF is going on here. Obviously we have transparency here and have shared our story. That’s why I wrote the above all in a long format so anyone can follow the bouncing ball. Since SIRI has been around for some time I now wonder why no one has filed a class action suit against Apple and the others. I mean even Samsung isn’t clean on this as they repeatedly ask me for my birthday. So I give them one. Totally fictitious and I write it down so I can fake them out. I also identify as a female. No not in real life but just to Samsung.

The Feds trained me well.

So ATS member what would you think would happen if everyone here acted as a Flash Mob at random, activated SIRI and pepper sprayed Apple by playing a Chinese porn video so that it could listen, record and dissimilate. Possibly including barnyard animals along with all those human grunts and groans. I would like to fry their circuits and I read somewhere that Porn messes with the Bots.

REFERENCE:

For the record Waterglass served your country USA in the civilian watcher program. My security clearance was compromised several years ago when China hacked into the Office Of Personal Management and stole over 22 million names of people who held USA security clearances. My fed POC wrote that both his and my file are probably in the hands of a foreign government. I guess I will never travel to China for the rest of my life.

As far as Apple and SIRI goes. SIRI is obviously active and I will begin my crusade to mess with it. It’s just too bad that money can buy anything these days especially all those in our government, including judges.

It’s really sucks living in the USA today.

Pretty sure *any* modern technology is “listening”; both transmitting and broadcasting...

Privacy isn’t so private nowadays lol

There's the old saying, those into IT have no technology in their house except an old dot matrix printer with a baseball bat next to it. Any sudden movements and it gets smashed.

Most any "smart device" you have is listening.

This has been proven over and over again. Cases have been made because of Amazon Echo recordings, ShotSpotter listens to the streets, phones listen to conversations, etc......

Last night, I upgraded all the out of date drivers in my $35 laptop. After that, I was thinking about using the camera and snapping a picture of my youngest grandson to make a home screen. I clicked on the camera icon and an info box came up stating the camera was being used by another app. Hmmm, I thought, glad I bought and installed a camera "blind" that covers the camera when I'm not using it for my ham radio meetings on zoom.
Camera Slide Cover
I also make sure the internal mic is turned off in multiple places.

Possibly PRK's Kid Rock might just do us all a favor by dumping an EMP over the USA?

That's why I am suggesting that we play porn flicks, let it record and see what happens. I aslo wonder whether Apple has their hands on it. Yuk yuk.

WG: This also occurs with android.

Thank you for your service.

JJ: I can verify everything except the bat.

I keep mine next to the door.

NF: elec/duct/masking tape or post it works in a pinch for the cam.

Plugging in an external mic disables internal mic on most laptops in a pinch. Just make sure the external has a physical off switch.

It's funny you mention that, because I finally convinced my wife that even if you have SIRI turned off, it's still listening. My Kindle has SIRI and I keep it turned off and so does she on her phone and tablet. We were talking one day and I said I could prove it was still active. I took my phone and tablet to the bedroom, closed the door and then brought up a short 10 minute porn on my desktop [ which is in the living room ] and leaned her phone [ after making sure SIRI was turned off ] next to the speaker. I let it play and when it was over, gave her phone back and just said "Wait for it ".
About a week later we start getting mail from 'toy" companies. You know the kinda "toys" I'm talkin' about. They were all addressed to HER, not me.

I place my phone into the microwave during the night so they cant reach the phone or get my location. It also will protect if an EMP goes off.

I also place green frog tape over the camera so they cant film me.

Nice recommendation and thank you.

Excellent and that's why I suggest porn. That way if they try to spin it on you you can spin it right back on them stating its in the public arena and was used to play them.

That's how you protect yourself from being discredited.

Nice job and thank you!

No, I drink it cold or add milk to it and drink it cold. I typically go combat. Now, the oven. That's another story and yes we have melted some things.

Don't know what to tell ya, maybe downgrade to a Qwerty or flip phone instead. I'm looking at going back to a Qwerty slide if I can find one, WAY BETTER KEYBOARDS than current phones. Touchpad screens suuuuuck by comparison. It's a huge sticking point for usability for me. Eavesdropping on my Motorola E5 does not seem to be an issue, but then again, I also don't use the browser for much other than here, period. It's a damn phone, not a computer. Best it's useful for, in my very blunt, no frills opinion, is calls, and texts. Anything else is a waste of my time doing it in an honestly legit inferior manner, on a phone instead of a computer.

Sorry for the smack, but it's context here. A lot of these issues don't crop up, when you don't treat the pocket toy like a Playstation, or a Lenovo.

As for the actual computers, "Disconnect" is the word of the day internally. Find a tutorial, and follow it. Open the sucker up, and disconnect the ears and eyes, FFS. It's not hard, folks, it's just a motherboard plugin.

Make sure you're good on the antivirus & so forth end, batten down the browser hatches, and this isn't going to grate anymore. I haven't had ads, pop-ups or suggestions for jack squat at ALL since I took that stance. They can try, but they can't watch/listen to me 24/7. I keep up and fling middle fingers back.

You may be giving SIRI all the blame, when she is likely just a member of a group of culprits.

Way back in 2014 we where warned.

Think you are safe in your own home? These innocent-looking devices may be spying on you, or performing other nefarious actions:

These Devices May Be Spying On You (Even In Your Own Home)

It will only get worse. There is no putting that genie back in the bottle.

It’s a connected world, and nearly every gadget, device, appliance, and machine with some sort of computer running inside it can be connected to others through the Internet of Things (IoT). What a great leap forward in this journey we call human civilization! But does this recent advancement come with a dark secret that can someday turn on us? Are smart devices spies in our midst?

Are Smart Devices Spying on You?

Astute observation, I would never have considered the degree of invasiveness may be something contract customers encounter more often than the PAYGO/no contract folks. Maybe there IS truth to "selling your soul to the cell devil".
