Taking some quotes from their own website.

NewsGuard uses journalism to fight false news, misinformation, and disinformation. Our trained analysts, who are experienced journalists, research online news brands to help readers and viewers know which ones are trying to do legitimate journalism—and which are not.

Nice, so a single entity to dole out a 'thumbs-up, thumbs-down' approach to what is deemed by them as news. What could possibly be the issue then?!

A SWAT team of NewsGuard analysts operates 24/7 to identify suddenly trending purveyors of unreliable news among sites that NewsGuard has not yet rated and warn internet users about them in real time.

Oh, aggressive! How saucy!

After launching in the U.S., NewsGuard will expand to serve the billions of people globally who get news online.

Ohhhhh really!?

Well, it's really interesting. To place upon one point of failure, whether or not something is fake or not is quote risky and dangerous.

What does the community think?

Sounds something like Mediamatters or Snopes.

I watched a video of CNN talking to one of the bosses of this organization, and the boss said they are going to just look at reliability of the small press agencies on social media. It appears they are not going to rate the big ten networks or so.

So basically they will not be checking the main fake news sites, whether they are liberal or conservative sites.

What good will this place be, they seem to be steering people in the direction they want them to go to. People will assume the big networks are not fake, when in fact they are almost always the ones spreading fake news, all of them do it, whether backing republicans or Democrats.

What a pile of crap, I do not know how this agency is going to lean, some of the investors lean left and it is hard to tell what lean the rest have. The site has lots of information and names of investors a person can research, I did four of the names, finding two mild left and two where I could not find what way they lean. I won't automatically believe these people just because they are saying they are going to try to identify fake news sites, in fact, fake news sites still often give out real information, if they convince us everything they write is fake, people will not find the truth sometimes.

This is just the latest salvo of investment opportunity. I've been seeing similar things pop up and then burst for a while now. The whole concept is "people don't believe the news, but they want the news. So let's give them news they think is real." Fox did the same thing back when they started... they branded themselves as the rebel, giving the people the 'real' news, a'la Bill O'Reilly's 'no-spin zone.' Of course there was spin... of course there was bias! It was just Republican instead of Democrat spin and bias. It's still bias...

The problem is that they are not grassroots. They have the same bias as those they claim to guard against. That's literally the same thing as trying to convince chickens to let foxes to guard the chickens against foxes.

I wonder how long it'll be before conservatives pick up on the idea? That should be a good show, fact-checker A calling fact-checker B a fraud for calling fact-checker A a fraud for calling fact-checker B a fraud for calling...

You want real news? People are confused and ticked off over fake news. That's real news.

With that amount of spook related folks this is defo a controlled psy-op type of operation.

Trained journalists these days are sophists. These guys, NG will call anything that doesn't carry the narrative desired by the spook agencies fake news and soon MSM will cite NewsGuard ratings for certain outlets or stories.

That's my prediction.
