President Donald Trump has repeatedly advocated for a steel slat design for his border wall, which he described as "absolutely critical to border security" in his Oval Office address to the nation Tuesday. But Department of Homeland Security testing of a steel slat prototype proved it could be cut through with a saw, according to a report by DHS.

A photo exclusively obtained by NBC News shows the results of the test after military and Border Patrol personnel were instructed to attempt to destroy the barriers with common tools.

And apparently all eight of the prototypes (according to the article) were fairly easily breached.

Trump, in a news conference this morning, said it was "a previous administration's wall", which is not correct.

Liberal logic...

Three inmates escaped from Alcatraz, therefore prison walls don't work...

No one has ever claimed a wall is fool proof. The point is 99% of those approaching the wall won't have the tools or time to actually breach it. Would you rather have a wall that stops 10,000 attempts but maybe allows 50 to get through or no wall where all 10,000 can run across the border?

nothing an electric fence charger can't correct. Those high voltage ones make your hair stand up on your arm and will jump across a wet sweaty rubber glove

It can be set up to monitor a fence being cut with modern technology and motion sensing cameras and someone can be there within ten minutes to fix the problematic people.

All they used was a common metal saw. They cost less than $20. Again, tunnels, will be dug, people will find easy ways to climb, and drones can deliver drugs, over a wall, in less than a minute. Now we see saws....LOL, See Saws.

How would it stand up to being rammed by a Bulldozer ?

Really, High Voltage? On all 2000 miles of trumps proposed wall? How much do you think that would add to the cost? Also with Modern technology, and motion sensing cameras, why do we need a wall?

There is lots of sand down there, haul in some portland to an onsite portable cement plant and make concrete walls. A couple of bucket cranes and some cement forms and they can just keep the wall growing. I think concrete could be the cheapest way, it does not have to be pretty looking to be effective. A little razor wire and electric charged cables with survelence cameras and it would be ok. Poured concrete will not take explosions well though, a couple of tannanite bricks could bring it down but they could also destroy almost any wall.

Exactly.

In addition, how long would it take someone to saw thru?

The wall isnt a stand alone, you will also have borders agents patroling. They would have a far better chance of caatching illegals attempting to say thru steel than they would them just running over an open area.

And gven this logic, drones can also be easily aavoided, as can border agents. So should we not "waste" money on them as well?

The sad part is they put up these talking points as if they are some how being intelligent... it is almost like they don't actually think about what they are saying.

A forty buck charger every half mile costs about eighty bucks for the charger, the solar ones can possibly pay for themselves in electric savings. I know people who use electric fences, the cost is not that high. Although, if the government is spending money, it might be twenty five times what a farmer would spend.

"99% of those approaching the wall won't have tools or time to breach it". The wall would be 2000 miles long. Once in place, Tunnels will immediatly be built (there are alread a ton of tunnels), people will find easy ways to climb, and DRONES are perfect to deliver drugs from one side to the other! Less than a minute, and a drone could carry a great big stash of drugs, over the wall.

You don't think the Mexican drug cartels, would invest in some drones, capeable of carrying some real weight? Its a no brainer.

So what?

Just give them the stupid wall.

Trump won the election and one of his promises was to build a wall. Thats his mandate and what he was voted in to do.
Let him just bloody well do it.

If you dems hate the idea then just tear it down next time you get in.

Don't ruin their "gotcha" moment.

Every illegal immigrant crosses with a power saw and a Generator to power it, every single one!

The only solution is open borders, and no one should ever lock the doors to their homes because a power saw and generator can get through that as well. Waste of money!!!!

Next year's upgrades will be electrifying it.

If that doesn't work we'll just have to get creative.

Mines are cheap, we could amp up the amount of venomous snakes, or we could put autonomous turrets.

The 560 miles of steel barriers already in place, are a deterrent. Most traffickers/smugglers drive to where there is no barrier.

At least these new steel barriers are an improvement.

People working and owning businesses around Steel Production plants are thrilled.

I am sure that the boarder security jobs have a lot of rapists applying for them. Lots of precautions are taken but a few do slip through the vetting and can prey on women who they catch coming across the border. Give in and you can keep going or you get arrested. If a person has not got any criminal charges against them yet, they can get one of those jobs.

It is like pedophiles targeting the catholic church to become ministers.

If you put up a wall, the people trying to get through are on the opposite side of the wall from these predators, that is good. The vast majority of the boarder security are probably good people, but even five percent being bad can effect a lot of women trying to get across the border. Illegals that do get through also may be prey for predictors since they cannot just go to the cops and report rapes. It is better to have legal immigrants all around instead of illegals, then we can better control rapes in our country by getting rapists quicker.

The Democrats are wrong.....I do not agree with their views of things, human nature needs to be considered with stuff like this. I would also bet that illegal women get forced to have sex by people hauling them across the border quite often as part of the deal.

So what you are saying is that by the time the illegal criminals got close to sawing through, border patrol would be there to arrest the illegal criminals because the wall was effective in keeping them from crossing the border because walls work absolutely everywhere they are implemented?

Am I missing something here with your electrified fence idea. I know you're a deep thinker; where is the electricity going to come from. A whole new grid and transformers is a major infrastructure undertaking?
