I asked in another thread if Meghan and Prince Harry had a child born in the US could that child become POTUS and therefore in essence reclaim the fine land of America for the British Crown. Apparently being a 'natural born citizen' they could?

I've searched long and hard but I'm not expert on US constitutional law so I'm just throwing it out there if anyone more knowledgeable can confirm or refute?

So ATS, what do you think? I'm against constitutional monarchies for the record, but it would be funny as if a British prince or princess ever became POTUS because the Crown would have reclaimed you through the ballot box.
I actually want their child to be born in the US now, if only for the chuckle.

Ding ding ding!

Winner of the dumbest thread of the day!

I know it's still early, but I'm confident no one is going to beat this.

So could a child of Meghan and Prince Harry born in the US become POTUS legally? Simple yes or no if you ain't too dumb to answer that lol

Even if that was constitutionally possible, which I severely doubt, it could only be for a maximum of eight years, so the child could not, by definition, win back the U.S. I also would be surprised if the desire to do so exists.

Seems to me it would be a possibility , taking the colony back by stealth ... cunning.

It's still early yet but this one will be hard to beat.

Why do you doubt it's possible? Are you well read on US constitutional law? I'm not which is why I'm asking.

And 8 years meh, America likes its political dynasties, two terms and they'd be owned by the Crown.

It is possible that he or she could become President. As for reclaiming the fine land for the British crown. I can't see that going down very well with it's people at the time.
It would be interesting if one of our royals did choose to run eventually though.

In fact, if United States did "come back under the British crown", Britain would be absorbed into the United States before you could say "reverse take-over". That was the twist in the plot of Bernard Shaw's play "The Applecart" (1930).

Haha yes!
If the firm had one of their own as POTUS it's de facto control then.

Not necessarily with a Royal as POTUS

Born in America? Taking an American job? They would "go native", and think as Americans.

I agree with you that its a fun thought but I am not an expert on the U.S. constitution. I have some relatives in America and I remember them talking about who could be president and it was pretty strict regarding citizenship requirements. It may be theoretically possible, but of course I think there is absolutely no way sufficient numbers Americans would ever vote even a minor British Royal into office.

Agreed it would be interesting for sure.
This thread is obviously speculative in nature, but if a child of Meghan and Harry could legally stand for POTUS if born in the US then I hope they have a child there if only for the chuckle.

Why is asking an honest question dumb? Seems like the best way to stop the "impossible" is to expect it.

I wondered how long it would take for that to enter into this.

They could but why would they? there is a lot of baggage when you become POTUS and you potentially become a target for any lunatic or rogue country
