Interesting story from CNN.

They went to Libya and watched slave trading live !!

Apparently this has been a problem for some time.

In this day and age of all things.

People for sale Where lives are auctioned for $400

Tripoli, Libya (CNN) -- "Eight hundred," says the auctioneer. "900 ... 1,000 ... 1,100 ..." Sold. For 1,200 Libyan dinars -- the equivalent of $800.
Not a used car, a piece of land, or an item of furniture. Not "merchandise" at all, but two human beings.
One of the unidentified men being sold in the grainy cell phone video obtained by CNN is Nigerian. He appears to be in his twenties and is wearing a pale shirt and sweatpants.
He has been offered up for sale as one of a group of "big strong boys for farm work," according to the auctioneer, who remains off camera. Only his hand -- resting proprietorially on the man's shoulder -- is visible in the brief clip.

Deeply disturbing. One of the world's saddest truths is out and out actual slavery persists to this day, in greater numbers than ever before.

We have allies that practice slavery. Shouldn't we at the bare minimum not trade, nor anything else with any nation that allows slave trade.

I mean if we really do care, shouldn't we be doing something like the above?

Slavery always has been and always will be somewhere in the world. While people will always find a way to make is race specific, slaves and slave owners alike have been vwry diverse throughout world history. But that's irrelevant to the issue today.

I wonder hiw much legal trouble one might get in should he go buy slaves in order to set them free. On the one hand he would be fueling the money hunger, but on the other he would be freeing people.

$10/hr...

$15/hr...

$20/hr...

SOLD! Now come spend a good portion of your life doing what I tell you or else you lose your income and livelihood.

Modern day slavery. Billions of people sell themselves to highest bidder every day.

Consentually though...

Which makes your analogy quite ridiculous.

Black people selling slaves. A lot of the slaves sold to people here in America back when slavery was going on were purchased from black people in Africa. I see it is still going on.

There is 200k estimated slaves in USA alone, slavery is a huge problem that most people don't even think is happening.

Supposedly Super Bowl is the biggest event in slavery, google it.

A slave who thinks they are free is still a slave.

You've no idea what you're even talking about, do you?

To even attempt to equate the two is proof of that.

There are different types of slavery, willing and unwilling. The one in the OP is the unwilling variety but there are many more who are willing slaves in today's world. I wasn't comparing the two, just pointing out how billions are willing slaves who sell themselves to the highest bidder.

Wonder if these newly minted slaves can put Apple phones together?

And how do they like the Chinese weather?

America must be so proud of it's decision to destroy Libya. Truly a great decision by our last President.

Got an alternative if one wants to enjoy things like electricity and hot water on demand?

Dunno, but China's building ghost cities in Africa. Maybe they can spare one?

Nope, I don't other than going back to the tribal structure we used for hundreds of thousands of years before we let strangers enslave us and take us away from family.
